Icons describe general node roles, inferred from node types. Inspect the parameters for the configured action.

Drag to pan; use + and − to zoom. Reconstructed from the exported node positions; nothing runs here. Dashed lines represent non-main connections. Full node names and notes appear below.

How it works

The exported workflow contains the following configured nodes. Their connections are shown above; inspect the JSON for the complete logic, expressions, and external actions.

Setup

  1. Download the JSON and import it into an isolated n8n instance. Leave the workflow inactive.
  2. Connect your own credentials through n8n’s credential store. Replace REPLACE_WITH_* values with your resource identifiers.
  3. Inspect API destinations, Code nodes, database queries, file paths, and outbound actions.
  4. Run with synthetic data and harmless destinations. Enable triggers only after checking the actual outputs.

Requirements

An n8n instance with the listed node types and compatible versions. Service-connected workflows may require accounts, credentials, or paid APIs.

Credential types declared in the source

  • sshPassword
  • telegramApi

Workflow notes

Default Variables

Default Variables

Before starting, please set the following variables:

  • working-directory: The directory where your docker-compose.yml file is located.
  • n8n-container-name: The name of your n8n Docker container.
  • telegram-id: Your Telegram chat ID. You can find it by messaging @get_id_bot on Telegram.
Sticky Note1

Get information from the n8n GitHub repository to find the latest released version of n8n.

Sticky Note2

This node removes "n8n@" from the version string.
For example:

  • Before: n8n@1.84.3
  • After: 1.84.3
Check Installed Image Version

Check Installed Image Version

Execute a command on the server to determine which version of n8n is currently running.

SQL Query: Merging Inputs

SQL Query: Merging Inputs

This query retrieves the stdout field from input1 and tag_name from input2.
It uses a LEFT JOIN to merge the data based on matching id fields.

Query:

SELECT input1.stdout AS stdout,
input2.tag_name AS tag_name
FROM input1
LEFT JOIN input2 ON input1.id = input2.id;
Telegram Notificaton [OPTIONAL]

Telegram Notificaton [OPTIONAL]

Send a Telegram message and inform that there is nothing to do and n8n is already on the latest version.

Compare Versions

Compare Versions

This node compares two versions: one from Docker and another from the n8n GitHub repository.
If a new version is available, it will be detected.

Telegram Approve

Telegram Approve

Send a Telegram notification and inform that a new version is available. Ask if the user wants to update.

Pull Docker Image

Pull Docker Image

Pull the latest n8n image. You can modify the command as needed.

Docker Compose Pull

Docker Compose Pull

Runs in the directory you defined in the Default variable.

Docker Compose Up

Docker Compose Up

In this step, the container will be started with the new image.

Telegram Notificaton

Telegram Notificaton

Send a Telegram notification and inform that n8n has been updated.

Schedule Trigger

Schedule Trigger

You can schedule this workflow, for example, every three days to check n8n images.

Purpose and structure

This folder contains the n8n update workflow. Its executable nodes use httpRequest, if, manualTrigger, merge, scheduleTrigger, set, ssh, telegram. The table and connection map below are derived from the JSON, not an inferred guarantee of behavior.

Setup

Import inactive. Configure your own credentials and replace REPLACE_WITH_* values. Review external destinations and Code nodes before running.

Entry points

When clicking ‘Test workflow’, Schedule Trigger

Verification

Sanitized source candidate; not runtime-tested. This overview is generated from node metadata. Read the folder README for the connection map, credential types, and license.
