Qualify new leads in Google Sheets via OpenAI's GPT-4
Configured with Google Sheets, Google Sheets Trigger, Open Ai. Review the connections and setup before adapting this template.
Node categories in this workflow
- Transform
- Data store
- AI & models
- Trigger
Icons describe general node roles, inferred from node types. Inspect the parameters for the configured action.
Drag to pan; use + and − to zoom. Reconstructed from the exported node positions; nothing runs here. Dashed lines represent non-main connections. Full node names and notes appear below.
How it works
The exported workflow contains the following configured nodes. Their connections are shown above; inspect the JSON for the complete logic, expressions, and external actions.
| Node | Category | Type | Operation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Merge | Transform | Merge | See node parameters |
| Update lead status | Data store | Google Sheets | update |
| Extract JSON reply | Transform | Edit Fields | See node parameters |
| Qualify leads with GPT | AI & models | Open Ai | chat |
| Check for new entries | Trigger | Google Sheets Trigger | See node parameters |
Setup
- Download the JSON and import it into an isolated n8n instance. Leave the workflow inactive.
- Connect your own credentials through n8n’s credential store. Replace
REPLACE_WITH_*values with your resource identifiers. - Inspect API destinations, Code nodes, database queries, file paths, and outbound actions.
- Run with synthetic data and harmless destinations. Enable triggers only after checking the actual outputs.
Requirements
An n8n instance with the listed node types and compatible versions. Service-connected workflows may require accounts, credentials, or paid APIs.

Workflow notes
1. Create a Google Sheet document
1. Create a Google Sheet document
- This template uses Google Sheet document connected to Google Forms, but a standalone Sheet document will work too
- Adapt initial trigger to your needs: check for new entries periodically or add a manual trigger

2. Provide lead qualification instructions
2. Provide lead qualification instructions
- Create a system message with overall instructions
- Add a user message with the JSON variables
- Set node parses the resulting JSON object, but you can also request a plain string response in the system message
3. Combine the initial data with GPT response
3. Combine the initial data with GPT response
- This Merge node puts together original records from the google sheet and responses from the OpenAI
4. Update the Google Sheet document
4. Update the Google Sheet document
- Provide Column to Match On (usually a timestamp in case of Google Forms)
- Enter the result from GPT into a separate column

Purpose and structure
This folder contains the Qualify new leads in Google Sheets via OpenAI's GPT-4 workflow. Its executable nodes use googleSheets, googleSheetsTrigger, merge, openAi, set. The table and connection map below are derived from the JSON, not an inferred guarantee of behavior.
Setup
Import inactive. Configure your own credentials and replace REPLACE_WITH_* values. Review external destinations and Code nodes before running.
